Rebecca’s previous website was running via Wix and she couldn’t get hold of her previous website designer, therefore the website had become unsupported. Without any login details or knowledge on how to update her website, this left her rather stuck. Wix is an online website design builder which can seem a good option to get started as a small business, but usually ends up taking hours/days/(dare we say, weeks!) of your life as a small business owner trying to DIY your new website. This is especially true as your business grows and you need to add new features/pages/have a professional website to bring in new clients.
When we spoke to Rebecca, we quickly understand her difficulties and were therefore able to propose a few different options. In the end, Rebecca was keen that we protect the website going forwards; opting for a rebuild using WordPress, but based on the look/layout of the existing website.
Along with a website maintenance plan, this ensures that we can keep the website updated for her and she has full access. Whilst we usually find clients stay with us for many years after initial website design, they are free to move their WordPress website to another provider at any time. Something that isn’t possible with Wix, so be careful before committing.
As such, we went away and developed a new website for Rebecca using WordPress – carefully matching things to her existing website, whilst also making improvements along the way. This included adding a ‘meet the team’ section which was a custom post type, meaning new members of the team could easily be added/removed as well as them all having an individual page. Due to the size of the team and unique nature of what the company offer, this provided the added benefit that Rebecca could share the direct URL of any of her team members with clients – providing full biography and speciality details.
Along the way, we also tweaked the existing content for Rebecca so that her new company website was up to date; fully mobile responsive; with forms for her different services which directed to her (not her web designer which had been the case previously).
After developing the new website, we completed our in-house 50+ point checklist to ensure it was ready and Rebecca reviewed it before we put it live. Here at Wattage, we take care of everything for the client so Rebecca just needed to share delegate access to her domain name account and we then moved the hosting, launched the new website and completed final testing to check everything was uploaded and working correctly.
Going forwards, we look after the website for Rebecca with a monthly maintenance plan and also on-hand for any changes that she needs along the way. Already the website has generated lot’s of enquiries, which go via secure online forms straight to Rebecca.
